I love Carlucci's. The staff are super friendly and fun to chat with - they remember my name and my coffee drink which makes me feel welcome and valued. I really like their cannolis and especially like that they are made to order; the shells are always crisp and the filling is fresh. The baci cookies are another favorite - hazelnuts and chocolate - yum!! The crusty rolls and bread have great texture and flavor (go great with a little dry sausage and roasted red peppers from Caputo's for an easy lunch). I also recommend the chocolate chip cookies - they are huge so I break them into a few pieces and put them in the freezer - I really like them frozen. Also, they serve coffee from Cafe Ibis, a great local purveyor.

Solid lunch spot with great sandwiches! I will agree with Christofer that their bread is pretty damn good. Nice outdoor seating available for small parties of 2 or 3 and the indoor seating is a great option if you've got little ones.

This is THE place for homemade pizzeli's and the cannoli is the best I've had in several cities famous for cannoli. I think they use real marscapone cheese and itty bitty choco chips in the filling. I know the choco bits aren't "authentic" but they are very tasty. This cannoli is so much better than other options in the city. Other places seem to cut corners- the taste is phoney but Carlucci's serves up the real thing at the same cost. The latte's are good too and I've had a sandwich once- it was very good. But I mostly go for the cannoli and pizzeli.

Cute downtown bakery. Wasn't crowded even on my 1200 lunch break. Fruit tart was amazing. Turkey avocado sandwich was meh (the avocado on the sandwich had gone bad). Overpriced but pretty good.

Nice friendly service and really good selection of cookies, cakes, muffinns, etc. My personal favorite is black and white cookie.

The fresh fruit tart is divine. That they sell Cafe Ibis beans is a convenient bonus.

LOVE the fruit tarts, macaroons, turkey cran sandwich and goat cheese sandwich. DON'T LOVE the pretentious girls who work behind the counter...

I've only tried their pastries, but so far, they've all been delicious and decently priced. I love how their pastries come in mini-sizes, which allowed me and my friend to sample a little bit of everything without going into a diabetic coma. We had their rosemary cookie, (it was like Mexican wedding cookie with rosemary) which was very good. They used quality chocolate for their cupcake, which was moist and not too sweet. Delicious!

Amazing! Their cakes are unbelievably good. I mean, it's ridiculous how delicious they are.

What's better than each of the goodies in the case at Carlucci's? SAMPLING each of the goodies in the case at Carlucci's, of course! Popped in here for dessert with friends when we were at the Farmer's Market across the street. While we didn't try everything in the case, we did get a couple of items each, put them in the middle of the table, and called it a free-for-all. Not a loser in the bunch. From the ganache brownie, to the cookies (black and whites, as I recall?) and even the lemon bars. All top notch. My favorite pick was what they call Decadence--a flourless chocolate cake. Very rich, so either you love it, or don't. I loved it. Seating is a little tight on Saturday morning, but we still managed to find a table inside for four of us plus a stroller. Tables also available out on the sidewalk. I haven't tried the actual mealtime food, but with so many yummy treats right in my face, I'm not sure I'd have the willpower to say "soup" before saying "sticky buns"!

Stopped here for a coffee before heading over to the farmers market. Their iced coffee is amazing! Love their little patio as well!

Pros: The chocolate croissants are perfection. The sandwiches are good, and I like the coffee too. They are always quick and friendly with service. I visit this place everytime I'm in town. I used to go a ton when I lived in slc. Cons: Sometimes they are out of chocolate croissants by the afternoon. I wish they were open a bit later. Summary: I went on my first date with my husband here 7 years ago. To me, it is a magical place. Even if you aren't starting a great love story it's still good for a sweet treat.

The iced latte and lavender espresso bars will change your life. Leave your religion, leave your wife, sell all your worldly goods, and spend it all at Carlucci's.

My review of things I have tried so far: 10/10 Raspberry Chocolate Decadence. This is perhaps one of my favorite chocolate items to eat from anywhere. 9/10 Chock full of Apple filling slices with thin crust. 7/10 Black and white cookie. I feel like the lemon cookie could be more lemony, maybe with lemon rhind mixed in.

Awesome little bakery in downtown Salt Lake. (Right across the street from Pioneer Park.) Small dinning area, mostly just a take-out bakery. I enjoyed everything I have ever tried here. Pastries to try: **My Fav: - Fresh fruit tarts (Wowza are these little devils yummy! 4" are the perfect size for dessert for one person.)** - Chocolate croissant - Shortbread cookie - Black & white cookie - Decadence (flourless chocolate cake. I normally get the baby one since it is super rich.) Breads to try: **My Fav: - Cheese Focaccia** Breakfast: - French Toast (It's thick slices, and man is it great.) - Veggie omelet (Add avocado and it's the perfect omelet.) Lunch: - Chicken Salad sandwich (Chicken salad with cashews on a croissant. I have never ordered anything else here for lunch because I am hooked on this sandwich!) Carlucci's has excellent service, delicious food & decadent desserts and the ambiance of this little place is just plan cute!

Yes. I'm in love with this place. I've only had their pastries, so I need to get back for lunch. It's a cute vibe in a fun downtown part of SLC. I will most defs be going back.

We got our wedding cake from here and we couldn't be more happy. Reasonably priced, elegant and most important of all delicious! It was probably the best cake I have ever eaten. The cake was supposed to serve 120 people, we had about 100 but because people went back for seconds it was gone! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!!!!!

Service was great and I love the quaint feeling in the cafe. The things I loved were the lemon ricotta cookies and the fruit tart!! I would not recommend their breakfast burrito. Imaging a large tortilla filled with all potatoes and maybe 1 egg with a little cheese. Next time I will try the French toast which my gut told me to try in the first place.

Stopped in for lunch while visiting Pioneer square. Friendly service and great food. I had the Italian baked tofu sandwich which came with pasta salad. The sandwich was well prepared and served quickly. The portion was more than enough to fill me up, and I'm a hungry guy. Bread was a little too thick for my taste, but otherwise very tasty and the perfect thing to soak up their delicious balsamic dressing. Combined with the baked tofu and provolone, this is one hearty meal. Definitely wish I had room for dessert; the bakery case had me drooling :)

Our kid went out of town for the summer, so two irresponsible adults headed out of the house looking for real pastries, as opposed to kid stuff. Today we got a box of treats that included a ganache brownie, an espresso brownie, a sugar cookie, a chocolate sandwich cookie and some carrot cake. Oh yeah, and this cream cheese croissant pastry that puts any croissant I've ever had to shame. It was a sweet indulgence for two summer "empty nesters." So delish!

  • Felipe Z.

The service was okay. They seemed a bit tired and not really engaged. Maybe it was the time of the day, but there wasnt a lot of excitement in the store. Oh well..... We had a fruit tart that was delish, a couple of coconut pastries, and some delish cheesecake. Got some iced coffee - chill nice blend. The place is so cool. It's a tiny shop across the street from Pioneer Park, where the Twilight concert series happen every summer. It has these awesome windows that give you the best view to the park. I liked this place, but I'm not sure if I'll ever go back. Everyone should at least try it though.

Went to get a slice of carrot cake. It was not cut yet. They told me I could get a slice but they would have to charge me for the whole cake. WTF? I see several other cakes that are being served by the slice in your display window. Ohh well. Gourmandies is probably better anyway.

Staff, location, prices, cakes, pastries, muffins, etc: Awesome. Here's what I want to zero in and talk about: Tiramisu. It's so good. So so so SO good. It's a good thing that it's only in that small cup because if they offered it in a Bucca Di Beppo size, I'd eat the entire thing all by myself in one sitting. I could buy what's in the counter/display and say it's for a party, but that would be a lie. It's rich, creamy, not too sweet, and full of flavors that blend incredibly well. It's strong, but like I said, they blend well. After eating it I always sigh and reflect back on how great it was, thinking about when I'll eat it again. All of the pastries/tarts are fantastic and seem to overshadow the tiramisu with their bright colors and buttery-ness, but give the tiramisu a try.

Carlucci's Bakery is a gem is downtown Salt Lake City. I have been here dozens of times and tried nearly every baked good they serve. Its a standard stop for me to pick up no hassle desserts when I am serving fish, olives and cheeses from neighboring stores. Everything is good... the breads, the lemon bars, the chocolate decadence, the cookies and fruit tarts. My favorites, however, are their cakes. I love cake and Carlucci's cakes never disappoint. Their carrot cake is my absolute favorite anywhere. Most of the bake goods come in multiple sizes so you can choose a selection to serve as finger food or stick with a full dessert. The cakes come in two sizes and the little ones are perfect for a quick indulgence. I'm starting to crave the carrot again.

I've been coming to this great little bakery for some time. The staff is beyond friendly and oh the wonderful treats they have!! I love the fruit tarts personally but get varieties for my office all the time and everyone always raves about the deserts - especially the lemon bars. Today I got lunch and the food came out quickly, was reasonably priced and delicious. My pup really enjoyed the doggy treats as well :) good coffee too!

Please just order the cannolis! They are the best and they give you delicious chocolate sauce. My only complaint is that this place isnt open 24 hours a day!

  • Monroe M.

I fell for it twice. I pass here on my way to tony caputo's. It always looks so urban and trendy. The food and deserts look so good. And then you are utterly disappointed with your first bite. I have had both breakfast and lunch here (different menu's) and both times I had no idea how they stay in business. their desert was better than their food but still wasn't amazing. All in all it stays in business for the hipster profile of people who would rather eat bad food and be seen their then have decent food at somewhere that doesn't add to their persona.

Such a nice surprise...amazing pumpkin roll and cannolis! I think I'm in heaven! Great little bakery with plenty of choices to drink and eat...a must visit!

How can a turkey sandwich be memorable? Well, my friend and I were out for a quick but interesting lunch. We were disappointed when we found that Bruges Waffles on 300S did not have the sandwiches we wanted. So we headed over to Carlucci's, a place we have had many a pastry, but never lunch. We ordered the safe Turkey/bacon/avocado with a side of pasta salad to share. Since we were sharing, we were offered two small pasta "garnishes" for a small fee. We'd of ordered a whole bowl of this stuff had we'd known how truly good it was. Colored rotini, tender crisp zucchini half moons, tiny dices of red onion in a intriguing balsamic dressing, just sweet enough to wish we had more. The sandwich, evenly constructed even for my OCD. The bacon crunchy and salty, not too thick or thin, the turkey was oh, so moist, fresh green(not gray) avocado, even the tomato was tasty and the perfect size. But the bread, oh my, so fresh, thick, chewy yet airy, and so tasty I could eat it plain. They make their own we were told. That was unnecessary, it was obvious. Like art, it takes not only the right medium, but someone to know how to put it on the canvas. Well, they do. Bravo!

Carlucci's pastries have never quite done it for me, but that hasn't kept me from trying to find "The One" must-have thing I'll end up craving day's later. Their bread is very good. Maybe I should try a sammich? Alas,... that's a hard bargain: I have yet to convince myself that Carlucci's is the go-to spot with Caputo's right next door. That... I crave. ~m

I actually found this place when I stopped by Bruge's for a waffle and decided to try it for breakfast the next morning. Definitely a better life decision than grabbing an overpriced breakfast in the hotel. After a short walk from the hotel I walked in and the bakery was busy but not overwhelmed. The girls behind the counter were helpful and enthusiastic, making everyone feel like they were a regular customer. This is not something I stumble upon often and it's always nice when it happens. I decided on the sausage and red pepper omelet and also tried the chocolate croissant. The croissant was good, but not anything great. The omelet came out quickly and was good, but the potatoes were perfect. Red potatoes cooked just right, I had to force myself to stop eating them. It's a great place for a relatively quick breakfast near downtown.

I have tried a number of the pastries here and they were all delicious. Every time I go in here I am always impressed by the service. They are so friendly and accommodating. I always feel like they truly appreciate my business and are happy to help. I generally get the Turkey Bacon sandwich when I go in and I love it. Its probably the best T/B sandwich I have ever had. I am never impressed with the side dishes they offer though. That, along with the cleanliness of the restaurant are my only 2 minor complaints. (Which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.) Those two things would not stop me from going back though. Whenever I bring people here we always have a good experience and love the food. The chicken salad sandwich is also a good one to try too. If you are in the area or have the time, I would highly recommend stopping in to Carlucci's for lunch or a light dinner.

I go here roughly 2 times per week. I have honestly had everything on the menu at least once. I love the daily specials and the great customer service. They make the meanest buttercream cake i have ever had. love this place!

Carlucci's is one of my favorite indulgences. Every time my parents visit from the Midwest, it is the first place they want to go! Their coffee is excellent and the baristas know what they are doing. Their homemade polenta is Amazing! (I assume this has something to do with the Caputos Market involvement). The Vegan breakfast is usually what I get, because it never disappoints. Their quiche is usually quite good too. And the pastries are always to die for! Scones, fruit tarts, cookies, canoli - everything I have tried has been great. The staff tends to be very friendly and the location adds to the appeal. This place is part of my summer Farmer's Market tradition.

This is my happy place - They have the best quiche. My favorite is their feta, spinach and tomatoes, and the crust is just the perfect amount of flakyness. You can never go wrong with their menu. All of their pastries are fabulous., their pasta salad is heaven and I love that they use coffee ice cubes for your ice coffee so the flavor is not diluted. Great service, laid back atmosphere and sometimes is the perfect place to go and rest after being at the Farmer's market

Carlucci's is strategically located. You pass it on the way in to Tony Caputo's Market & Deli and also on the way back to your car. Stop and glance through the front door to see what's inside and it's all over. You're compelled to go in. Once inside, your eye's will most likely pop out of their sockets on springs and snap back again, like the cartoon character who sees something truly enticing. It's a wonderful vision, colored by scones, croissants, muffins, gooey sticky buns with pecans, sour cream coffee cake, apple strudel, brownies with walnuts and ganache, lemon bars, eclairs, napoleons, chocolate cake, vanilla bean cheesecake, fresh fruit tarts, almond tarts, carrot cake, chocolate raspberry cake, mocha cake, and Tiramisu. There's even MORE to see, including oatmeal raisin cookies, chocolate chip cookies, double-chocolate cookies, sesame cookies, pignoli cookies, rosemary cookies, and Biscotti. And guess what? It's ALL good. Next thing you know you're pointing at confections in the display case like a little kid, asking for "one of these" and "two of those." A few minutes later, you're skipping out the door clutching a little white paper sack, filled with baked goodies that you can't get anywhere else, or make at home ... Carlucci, you knew what you were doing when you found this location!

A great little nook in Salt Lake that is rarely visited by the suburbanites for fear of being "panhandled". The neighborhood is great and Carlucci's is one of the cornerstones of its charm. The meals are fresh, flavorful, well presented, relatively guilt-free, and reasonably priced.

This is my favorite lunchtime gem. The pasta salad is crazy good. They offer a variety of fresh sandwiches, salads and soups. The baked goods are mind blowing. On cold SLC afternoons they offer a grilled cheese sandwich with a bowl of homemade soup. The grilled cheese is on two thick slices of fresh bread, it will blow your mind. Another amazing thing about these guys is they make ice-ed coffee with coffee ice cubes. It is genius. Go here and have lunch, but save room for a homemade sugary baked treat.

Love, love, love! I frequent this establishment devotedly, so it's about time they get my rave. The staff---always a delight. Upon my last visit, I believe a woman named Theresa (?) bounced around happily. She brightened everyone's day she met, including mine. As for the food, it's fresh, it's tasty and it's perfect for the lunch-time (lighter fare) pallet. It is one of the few places offering a great coffee shop feel WITH fantastic food and wonderful bakery items. My all-time favorite is the fruit tart! Oh, and their house salad dressing is delish!

Drooped in for lunch after reading the reviews here. The roast beef sandwich was good. But service was lac lustre. Also was running low on pastries. The cake came frozen and defrosted for the patrons. Not fresh made. Dissapointing. Hence the three stars.

Breakfast here is nothing to write home about. We stopped in here after the SLC Marathon. Although there was only one other group in the restaurant at the time, it took us twenty minutes to get the omelettes we ordered. Unfortunately, they weren't worth the wait (or the money). I ordered the sausage, onion, red pepper and mozarella omelette and my wife chose the veggie with tomato, mushroom, spinach, and cheddar (both $7.95). We both opted for a croissant along with the home fries. When we finally got our food, it was nice and hot, but sadly unseasoned...have they ever heard of salt or pepper? The omelettes were nicely sized (I would guess three eggs) and prepared in the usual country-style. The filling was sparse in general, but the sausage was particularly a rare find...otherwise, at least the omelette was hot. The potatoes weren't particularly crispy, but they were bland. The biggest disappointment, however, was the croissant which we assumed was baked on site. It was split and toasted on the griddle so it was hot and crispy. But there again was no flavor...where was the rich butteriness we expected? Though it looked nice from the outside, it unfortunately tasted like any croissant you would pick up from a grocery store. My wife's omelette was similarly bland, and arrived without the promised cheddar cheese. With nothing special to offer, we defintely would not return for breakfast. However, their sandwich menu looks intriguing and we would probably try them out next time. We should have had breakfast at the Belgian Waffle/Frites place across the parking lot.

On two occasions, I have afforded myself the luxury of dinning at Carlucci's. Staff were friendly, service was prompt, and most importantly the food was terrific. The first meals I ordered consisted of a 9grain vegetarian sandwich along with tomato soup. My second "meal" consisted of pastries and coffee. Both meals were great and I rate Carlucci's five stars only because I cannot rate it higher. Best bakery in Salt Lake (and trust me, when I say I have been many places).
